Wholes and Fractions
A complete or a full object is a whole.
Fractions are equal parts of a whole.
In the above picture, There are 3 cells of equal size and out of 3, one cell is colored.
We say one-third fraction is colored.
One-third is written as ⅓
In this picture, 2 out of 3 cells are colored.
We say two-third fraction is colored.
Two-thirds is written as ⅔
In this picture, 3 out of 3 cells are colored.
We say the whole is colored.

In the above picture, There are 4 cells of equal size and out of 4, one cell is colored.
We say one-fourth fraction is colored.
One-fourth is written as ¼.
One-fourth is also known as a quarter.
In the above picture, There are 4 cells of equal size and out of 4, three cells are colored.
We say the three-fourth fraction is colored.
Three-fourth is written as ¾.
Three-fourth is also known as 3 quarter
In the above picture, There are 2 cells of equal size and out of 2, one cell is colored.
We say one-half or simply half fraction is colored.
One-half is written as ½.

We say one-third (⅓) fraction is colored.
If you consider this picture as 6 cells, 2 out of 6 cells - 2⁄6 are colored.
Means 2⁄6 and ⅓ are the same. In general, we have to say fractions in their minimal form.
So the above fraction should be treated as ⅓
